I’ve always been more SCTV than SNL. This book is an oral history of Second City’s onstage history.
Good stories about how it all came together behind the scenes. A few people are missing. Good stories, especially from Joe Flaherty and Dave Thomas. Memorable stuff about John Candy and Chris Farley.
Here’s a line from Bernard Sahlins, talking about SCTV:
I think SCTV was like Monty Python- a little too bright for the majority audience. Remember, you have to get ten or twelve million households in one night. And so you have to flatten out the work to appeal to twelve million households. And we never did.
