Ken Ober, host of Remote Control, circa 1988
When all the original the MTV veejays are gone, who will introduce the videos and contestants? Ken Ober, MTV’s Remote Control host is confirmed dead by MTV News sources.
Adam Sandler got a start on Remote Control, so did Colin Quinn and Dennis Leary.
No cause of death, found in his home last Sunday, had complained of headaches. Maybe he was watching re-runs of the slap-dash game show MTV premiered as part of it’s first venture into non-music video programming. So… Ken Ober really heralded the death of classic MTV?
Someone asked me if I thought there could be a spot for that old VJ format again on cable. I dont know, do artists/labels still make videos for singles? Has the music industry moved away from “promo” videos as a marketing tool? Quite a bit more expensive than in-studio appearances and CD signings.
